Tutorial - Copying Data from the Data Summary to a Spreadsheet

Locating the Data
  1. We assume you are on a Web page with prairie data and have clicked Data for Spreadsheets. Scroll until you see an image like the one below.

  2. You can copy either prairie plant data or weed data. For this tutorial we'll use the the prairie plant data.
Selecting and Copying the Data
  1. Click-hold- and drag over the data to highlight it as shown in the image below. Be sure to drag down until you have all the data.

  2. WHILE IT IS HIGHLIGHTED, select Copy under the Edit menu. The data has been copied to the computer's memory!

Copying the Data into a Spreadsheet
  1. Open the spreadsheet program you use to make charts and graphs. We use Excel, but other spreadsheet programs work similarly. You should see a spreadsheet like the one below but with the cells blank.

  2. Select Paste under the Edit menu. The data you copied earlier should appear as you see it below. (If it didn't, go back to the Web data, copy and paste again.)

  3. Now you can use the programs graph and chart making features to display the data in any fashion you wish. If you need help, you can consult the Excel or Claris Works tutorials.
