(Print on Official Letterhead) DATE: TO: FROM: RE: Prairie Parcel Welcome back to Johnson Elementary School. I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer and are ready for an exciting year. During the summer I learned about an exciting project I want to share with you. Many people are very concerned about the continued destruction of native grasslands, and our community is interested in joining the effort to increase the number of prairie plots in the state. Your teacher tells me that you will be studying the Illinois tallgrass prairie this fall, and perhaps your class could convince the community to let us develop a small reconstructed prairie right here in Warrenville. We have been asked to create a PowerPoint presentation for the park district and the school board sharing a prairie design and an implementation plan. How can we develop a prairie that is ongoing, economical and easy to maintain? Become prairie advocates, and we might be able to have our own prairie to enjoy for years to come. The challenge is yours! I know you will want to discuss this as a class, see what you already know and outline a work plan. We are fortunate to have computers with access to the Internet to help with your work. Your presentation is due by November 30, 1998.
