BUILD A RECREATION CENTER USING GEOMETRY

Project Description

The city of West Chicago has recently acquired a small island on a nearby lake. The island is roughly circular with a radius of approximately two acres. Our geometry class is being asked to design a recreation center for the children of West Chicago. Our class has a very unique opportunity. Because of an anonymous donor, money is no object.

The class will be divided into groups of approximately four students. The first task of each group is to decide which portion of the project your group will be responsible for designing. Below are your possible choices.

Following is what your team is responsible for turning in at the end of the project.

Typed report detailing your chosen field and specifically how geometry plays a part. Be sure to include a bibliography.

Include any correspondence your team may have had with an expert in the field and any comments as to how this information was helpful.

A design for your part of the Recreation Center project. This is directly related to your choice of topics. See each topic for more specific details.

Finally, your group will be asked to do a presentation to the class of your research and design ideas. You may do your presentation using multimedia.

Although each team is responsible for their respective parts, it may be helpful to consult other teams when planning your design. For example, it may be beneficial to know where the architecture team intends to put the building and how big the building will be in order to design the landscaping plan. A time line for the project will be given in class.
