One of the first things you should do after deciding to start your prairie restoration is to choose an appropriate site. Remember, this will be a long-term permanent addition so choose an area that will not be disturbed in future years by building project or other possible disturbances.
Once you have a commitment to a permanent site, make sure it is an area that you can manage. The prairie needs to be burned occasionally and the location of the site and the areas adjacent to it should be able to support this need.
Another consideration to keep in mind is one of initial aesthetics. The area will not look like the beautiful prairie you envision for at least the first few years.
