West Chicago City Museum

Heritage Commons

Heritage Commons display many reminders of Wets Chicago's Railroad Heritage. An 1890's CB&Q freight depot moved from its original site, house exhibits of the area's railroad history and a quarter scale diorama of the Wets Chicago roundhouse, c1950, features the engine house and its support facilities.

Also on the grounds are displayed an 1884 water standpipe, a scale model of a C&NW Class 4-6-0 steam locomotive, and two railroad handcars.

The railroad park at Heritage Commons is operated by the West Chicago city Museum.

The Turner Town Hall, home of the West Chicago City Museum since 1975, was the civic and political center for the Village of Turner, West Chicago's predecessor. Built in 1884, the Town Hall was not only the governmental nerve center, but the first home of local police and fire departments and the public library.

The significance of its 92 years of continuous public service, the longest of any town hall in the western suburbs, was recognized by its listing in 1991 in the National Register of Historic Places .
