Learner Outcomes:
*Students will design and safely conduct investigations that provide reliable quantitative or qualitative data, as appropriate, to answer their questions.
* Students will identify questions they can investigate using resources and equipment they have available.
* Students will identify data and locate sources of information including their own records to answer the questions being investigated.
* Students will use common media and technology terminology and equipment, including demonstrating the use of still and video cameras and scanners.
* Students will use a computer and productivity software to organize and create information.
*Students will work with data in the context of real world situations.
Student Task: Students do a "scientific" study of our nature trail. They would collect data such as amount of rainfall, snowfall, types and amounts of pollution/erosion. They would then prepare a report listing their results. This report most likely would only involve word processing. They would be tested on names, dates, etc.
Teacher Role: My role would be neglible in this because of the limited uses of technology. The regular 7th grade science teacher would be responsible for setting up teams, decidning on what data is to be collected "grading" papers etc.
Grouping: The students would have worked in groups but the groups, and specific tasks and responsibilites, would be teacher assigned.
Hook: There would have been no hook. The motivating factor for the students would be an opportunity to be outside.
Student-Directed Learning: Students would be given the opportunity to decide where to setup observation stations.
Use of Technology:Technology use would most likely be limited to word processing and possibly some database use The internet would be used for doing research but not for publishing results.
Assessment: The students would be graded based on participation, a letter grade for their paper, and a paper pencil test.
