Students will be joining other schools in learning about the Rio Grande and its role in providing birds with some protection. There are several wetland areas along the Rio Grande. There has been several articles written about a few schools taking part in wetlands. As well as news reports of other schools taking water samples from the Rio Grande.
Grade Level: 6 Subject:Math, Science, Language Arts Learner Outcomes: Student Task: Students will be studying wetlands near their community. They will be collecting pictures of birds and flora from the local wetlands. They will then present a powerpoint presentation. Teacher Role: Teacher will lecture about wetlands. Give the students an opportunity to look up wetlands on Comptons Encyclopedia CD Rom and Internet. Will assist in answering questions. On occassions, some guidance - if any. Grouping: Students can work in groups or on their own. No roles as to who will be the leader in group. Come as you go. Hook: None. Student-Directed Learning: Students will follow web page samples to do their presentation on Powerpoint. Use of Technology: Students will be able to use Compton's Encyclopedia and Internet. .
