Route 66

Congratulations, you have been appointed to the "Route 66 Festival Planning Committee". Your job is to work with the other members of the Committee in planning our local celebration of this historic road this coming Fall.

Subject Areas: History, Geography, Lang. Arts, Map Studies and Data Collection.

Goals: 4th Grade students will gather data and create a web page and other projects to learn the history and present use of the historic Route 66 and the cities and states that it runs through. Students will be divided into heterogenous groups and work at collecting the facts, history and legends of this historic highway. The Internet will be searched for information. Students will maintain a Research Log. Students will interview people in various placs by e-mail, letters, or even face to face as they explore the people and places found along this route. In cooperative groups, the students will compare and contrast the early days and modern days in towns and cities along the route. They will make HyperStudio stacks to tell the story of their discoveries.

The Internet, Library, Cd, and Museums will be utilized in gathering and exploring data on this topic.

The students, with the guidance of the teachers, will construct the assessment rubric and apply it to the completed projects.
