PROBLEMS TO SOLVE #1:

After school each day, Sally uses her computer to do her homework. If she has an average of two hours of homework per night for 180 days of school per year, how many Kilowatt-hours are consumed and what is the annual energy usage for her computer? A CPU and monitor use 270 Watts.

(270 W x 2 hrs. x 180 days) / 1000 = 97.2 kWh annual usage

 

PROBLEMS TO SOLVE #2:

Meter Reading for January 1 is 26010 kWh.

Meter Reading for January 31 is 36165 kWh.

How many kilowatt-hours of electricity were used during January?

36165 kWh - 26010 kWh = 10155 kWh for January

If the cost of electricity in Denver is $.089 per kWh, how much did electricity cost for January?

10155 kWh x $.089 per kWh = $903.80

What is the average cost of electricity per day during January?

$903.80 / 31 days = $29.15 per day
