the first pair of quarks is composed of the lightest quarks.
Down - d
Down is also a light quark.
Strange - s
The strange quark was named bedcause it was assocaited with the k mesons becaouse their lifeltime were so long. It was strange.
Charm - c
Charm was named on a whimsey.
Bottom - b
The bottom quark was first observed at Fermilab
Top - t
Teh top quark is teh most massive quark. It is abpout 34,000 times more massive thatn the up and down quarks. It was discovered at Fermilab.
