Through 1998 the Association of Science and Technology Centers sponsored an Honor Roll of Teachers during National Science and Technology Week. The awardees were recognized during special events locally and in Washington, D.C. We have continued the tradition with local celebrations.


1989
Robin Dombeck: For her leadership with Beauty and Charm at Fermilab and The Summer Science Project, programs that enhance science teaching and learning in middle school clasrooms.

1990
Wayne Wittenberg: For his leadership with Hands-on-Science,a program that demonstrates physical science concepts to elementary students through hands-on investigations, and for his participation in the planning of the Teacher Resource Center and the Lederman Science Center.

1991
JoAnn Johnson: For her contributions to the DOE High School Student Honors Research Program, the Educational Assistance Limited Program and Topics in Modern Physics and for her effots to pilot hands-on exhibits and participate in the planning of the Lederman Science Center.

1992
Weird Science—Robert Lewis, DeWayne Lieneman, Lee Marek and William West: For their zany efforts to promote scientific literacy among thousands of teachers and students nationwide.

1993
Robert Grimm: For his commitment to bring science to students and teachers as a dedicated, creative and enthusiastic contributor to Quarks to Quasars, a new exhibition at the Lederman Science Center and for his contributions to the DOE High School Student Honors Research Program.

1994
James Cox: For his leadership with Beauty and Charm at Fermilab and The Summer Science Project, programs that enhance science learning and teaching in middle school clasrooms, and for his contributions to numerous Science Adventures that provide hands-on experiences for students.

Patricia Franzen: For her leadership with Particle and Prairies at Fermilab, a program that provides inquiry-based interdisciplinary education experiences in the Fermilab prairie for middle school students, and for her contributions to numerous Science Adventures that provide hands-on experiences for students.

William Fraccaro: For his leadership and continued support for From Beneath the Ashes, a program that provides inquiry-based interdisciplinary education experiences in the Fermilab prairie for intermediate students.

Brian Wegley: For his leadership and contributions to the scientific literacy of students and their teachers at the Lederman Science Center through his extensive work with our physics programs.

1998
LInC Leadership Team—Sharon Gatz, Cheryl LaMaster, Stephen Meehan, Meg Bingham, Mary Clifford, Sharon White: For their leadership in the design and conduct of the Fermilab Leadership Institute Integrating Internet, Instruction and Curriculum—a graduate course to develop leaders who effectively use technology to support engaged learning. The team is teaching the course, in its eighth semester, online nationally.

Donna McDonald: For exemplary use of science center programs and resources and for significantly improving the quality of science education

Barbara Romack: For her involvement in several Fermilab programs---Beauty and Charm, Quarks to Quaars, Form Beneath the Ashes adn sciencelines.

Jill Mueller and Pat Pentek: For their leadership in the design and conduct of the Fermilab Leadership Institute Integrating Internet, Instruction and Curriculum.

Mike Knapp: For exceptional contributions to science education including the well-prepared midlevel students he has brought to Fermilab for the past 12 years, his participation in the TRAC, Beauty and Charm and Particles and Prairies programs, his work acquainting preservice teachers with Fermilab education programs and his unwavering support as an ambassador for Fermilab and the Fermilab Education Office.
Jeff Rylander: For his exceptional contributions to science education by engaging students with experiments that measure cosmic rays, originating the first cosmic ray data acquisition board, providing feedback on the Cosmic Ray e-Lab as well as his role of lead teacher at the Argonne QuarkNet Center.

Laura Cox: For her exceptional contributions to science education through her leadership as an instructor in Fermilab's Summer Secondary Biology Institute.
