Target: Science and Engineering Program is a wonderful program that gives students an opportunity to experience working in a professional environment with people who are bright, extremely knowledgeable and willing to transfer their knowledge to new generations. Target encourages students to learn, to explore new possibilities and to pursue their goals. Students work in fields that they are interested in pursuing as their careers. Target facilitated my decision to pursue a career as a Computer Professional. I work in a field that I always wanted to work in, and I enjoy what I do. I love working with people and working on computers. Target made it possible for me to have the best of both worlds.
Gina came to Fermilab through Target, a six-week apprentice research program for talented minority high school students. Gina spent several summers operating and monitoring computers. She quickly progressed to the Information Systems Department. Gina went on to Aurora University where she earned her B.S. in Computer Science and is the recipient of the Spartan Award, the highest honor given to a graduating senior. Not only is she employed here at Fermilab as a Computer Professional in the PC hardware and software support group, but she is working on her Masters degree at North Central in Naperville. Her ultimate goal is to receive her doctorate. Gina is truly one of Fermilab's success stories. Her new e-mail is carranza@lucent.com.
