The Green River Project
Description: The purpose of the Green River project is to conduct an environmental study of the Green River through a series of tests , collect the information related to the tests, and to relay the information via the internet. This project will be a collaborative effort involving county soil and conservation departments and any schools that are connected to the internet that are located along or have access to the Green River. The students can use any resource available either using the internet, soil and conservation departments, and or other schools doing the study along the river. The specific tests of the river will be as follows: sampling and conducting chemical water testing of the river (BOD, nitrogen, phosphates, ph, temperature, turbidity and dissolved oxygen) , analysis of macro and microinvertebrates of the river, analysis of plant life in the water, the rate of flow of the river, analyzing the depth of the river at certain points along the river , and the rate of soil erosion along the river.
Time Frame: 3 weeks
Learner Outcomes:
The test results would be compiled and an overall WQI (water quality index) would be determined. The results would be relayed to other schools (and other interested parties) on a internet web page .

Performanced-based: rubrics assigned for water testing procedures
Generative: rubrics for generating ethical questions based on the tests
