Tangerine Improvement Society

(TIS) What is it? What does it do?

TIS is the longest uninterrupted society on record with Orange County. It is a not for profit organization run by volunteer to steer the development of our community in the way our residents see fit. Its many activities over the years have contributed greatly to making Tangerine a friendly, neighborly village-a "good place to live".

We are a non-purpose --"The improvement in every way of the interests of the town". Tangerine is an unincorporated village and comes under the control and supervision of the Orange County officials, laws, and regulations. Because we are small (but growing) and in the northernmost part of the County with no local representation in Orlando, TIS becomes a mighty important factor in our continued effort to keep Tangerine "a good place to live".

TIS frequently discusses and takes appropriate action on matters pertaining to the protection of life and property, zoning regulations, upkeep of streets and ditches, and other matters affecting the welfare of the people and property in the area.

Johnston Hall, aka TIS Hall is owned & maintained by TIS, which holds its monthly meetings there. Neighbors, their visitors, & friends meet for a social/educational evening and to "break bread together". Civic & other problems common to all small communities are discussed. Action is taken when it is decided that it is decided that it's for the good of the community.

The Hall is available to many organizations as well as any member who may desire to use it for private meetings or celebrations at a small fee. Contact an officer or member of the board for details on renting the Hall.

The Society is supported, financially, solely on its membership dues, fundraisers, & donations.

Can TIS continue to represent the needs of the community??? Not without your help. We have approximately 135 members currently, about 40 of those members are active and sadly about half of those 40 are our northern friends who aren't here year round.
