This project challenges the student to build a model bridge from balsa wood and glue that will exhibit the largest strength-to-weight ratio possible. For successful completion of this project, the following tasks must be accomplished within the trimester grading period:

(1) A day-by-day assessment diary kept by each student as well as a weekly assessment of individual and group process

(2) A written report of 400-500 words on the history, strength components and design of bridges

(3) Construction of a model bridge using only balsa wood and wood glue and entering your model in the local bridge building competition
